Journals

My sketchbooks have been my constant companions for over 15 years now. They have borne witness to my life and its many phases! They are spaces in which I observe, reflect, and document everyday life and form the backbone of my evolving art practice.

I absolutely love drawing on-location in my journals. There is a kind of 'dual memory' that gets formed, one that is tangible- captured on paper, and the other the memory of the situation - its sights, sounds, smells, and other idiosyncrasies particular to the experience of place. This form of documentation has become a tool to help break-ice, build empathy and has led to many a conversation with complete strangers. Over the years, my method of documentation has expanded to include sound clips, video, and found objects.
